We're looking for an experienced IT Specialist to help us manage our servers and network, systems security, and meet devops requirements, a problem-solver who can use an arsenal of tools to keep our IT infrastructure humming along, and our team productive day to day. You would be joining a team of motivated engineers, geographers, and designers who spend everyday learning, teaching, and advancing the state of the art in geospatial technology.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Create and manage deployment systems for provisioning of cloud servers, databases, and web applications.
  • Setup & maintain employee computers, make sure our team has what they need to get work done.
  • Manage all office network systems including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN.
  • Develop, design and implement best-practices and policies for corporate IT networking infrastructure and other resources, including but not limited to physical security, software security, networking.
  • Ensure corporate data assets are backed up and archived on a regular basis to prevent loss of information, develop & execute business continuity plans.
  • Establish acceptable use policies for corporate computing profiles and resources to minimize risk of unauthorized penetration, malicious code or social engineering practices.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, and keep the entire corporate team apprised of IT issues as needed.
  • Own and manage corporate-wide software tools, including desktop (installed) software & web services.
  • Respond to IT issues throughout the company including desktop support / maintenance.
  • Keep great documentation on how our systems are put together.

Essential Skills

  • Intimate knowledge of Linux-based systems (preferably Ubuntu).
  • Experience with Postgres / Postgis DB.
  • Extensive experience working with shell scripting & Linux command line tools.
  • Deep knowledge of networking technologies.
  • Experience building secure networks & server systems.
  • Experience using AWS cloud services (EC2, S3, CloudWatch, VPC, Route53).
  • Problem solving skills to help our team get technical issues resolved quickly.

Bonus Skills

  • Deployment & continuous integration with tools like Chef and Puppet.
  • Experience with virtualization with Xen, KVM, etc.
  • Experience with IT budgets & cost management.


  • Awesome communication skills. You should be a great writer and speaker – you'll be writing content, documenting our systems, and communicating constantly with our whole team.
  • A GTD attitude. Identify next actions, communicate intent, and execute. We're a fast-paced team, and this role covers a wide area, so a results-driven mentality is critical.
  • Ownership thinking. Have the ability to take ownership and make decisions. Passion and self-motivation are key. We don't micromanage, you'll be expected to own and deliver.
